Lib western gvts haven't made the mental Intellectual iump yet that their world and their perceptions of it aren't truly reflective of reality. It's their reality. They can't accept or understand why anyone can't share it. So they condemn criticise and ostracise anyone who isn't on board with their world. So more and more people slip away into the shadows. More and more just disengaged. More and more just switch off. Meanwhile the human reptiles predators and monsters run increasingly rampant. And this is where and how so called populism prosper. A very good article and I think you, and the Professor you quote, are right about many things.

If you’re not familiar with him, I’d check out Peter Turchin’s work, because he makes a similar argument about the US being close to societal breakdown.

But one “saving grace” we & the US have is an aging population.

Studies show the countries most at risk of civil strife are those with a youth bulge.

Frankly, older people can’t be arsed to fight - they have lower testosterone or arthritic knees or high blood pressure and cholesterol - or whatever the reason might be.

While young people are impulsive and all the rest.

It’s arguably why all those cosplayers in the US rarely pull the trigger.

Needless to say, aging populations come with very many other problems, but they mitigate the risk of this.

I’m not saying you and the Professor are wrong. I think you’re probably right. But an aging population might ensure things don’t get so bad.

We can but hope.
