All so very true. At my first nick there was a sergeant who was desperate to catch the Ch Insp drink driving. Might be the same pair?

I started at a nick that was on the northern fringes of Bristol, it covered an urban area which petered out to the edge of the Cotswolds. One very snowy and icy night shift the whole section, minus supervisors were told to patrol the Division in the long wheel based Land Rover. Jeremy Clarkson would have approved as we drove along muddy tracks, across fields and through woods. Hand brake turns, attempts at mountaineering in 4 wheel drive with low ratio was hilarious, to us if not the farmer when the snow melted and our route was disclosed to the landowners!

The classic late off nights was not always down to a prisoner, old fashioned wind up alarm clocks were notoriously unreliable as several officers can confirm. I could go on but suffice to say it was fun, at least for some brief periods.
