I was handed a message from a DI with a Reserve room overnight call. I will never forget it. It started. "My name is xxxxx and I've just been released from a mental hospital. I want to give you information about xxx. " With a heavy sigh, I went off to see him. Turned out to be one of our best sources, who provided years of overtime for dozens of people. RIP my old friend.

I remember the nutters books well, and the lady from the US would only talk to my male colleagues LOL

How could one forget the lady from America? “Hi, my Sherlocks!” 🤣

She was as mad as a fish but was thoroughly enjoying herself.

My one and only time working in Reserve was the night David Copeland (the Nail Bomber) was arrested. Myself and a colleague from T1 Doms (Hi Stu!) were manning the phones and I took a call from a DI who couldn't contain their delight at finding his little bomb factory.

Terry B. Truly a legend and a wonderful bloke.

I'm now wondering what was written next to my name when I applied................................................

Hello Barry, I was on the 19th Floor that day I think. The Flying Squad went down to the south coast and arrested him. I also remember watching the plume of smoke from the device at the Admiral Duncan coming up over the skyline on the TV. A horrible, horrible crime.

Yes. Stu and I were on loan from P Squad. Everyone else from P went off at the end of their shift but we hung about a bit and then the Admiral Duncan device went off. We were asked if we wanted to stay on (I think by Terry?), which we did.

Dominic, another enjoyable read that took me back. Being an OFD in A Squad I used to frequent the office booking out said revolvers and later on Glocks and was always pleased when acknowledged by those in the office as it was where one met others from other squads and desks. Those were indeed happy times with plenty of goings on. Hope you’re feeling better soon.
