Excellent article and, as usual, spot on. In my experience it is those of CI or just promoted Supt rank who try to change the world to get themselves noticed. Robust vetting, and yes, as you say, home visits work. They also need to get rid of the security guard uniform, it does nothing for the image and therefore no-one respects the police in it.
There are many more things that need changing, most of the things were being done in the late 80’s, 90’s and upto about 2005/6 and it worked in general.
