Exceptional roundup of the tensions building in UK policing. The sectarian flashpoint analogy to Troubles-era Belfast is chillingly accurate, especially when you consider how diaspor aconflicts translate into street-level confrontations. What grabbed me most was the observation about police forces being underfunded "shock absorbers" expected to hold togethr an increasingly fractious society. I saw similiar dynamics play out with community policing units in 2022 where resource constraints forced prioritzation of reactive responses over preventative engagement.
